IO2 – syllabi

The team implementing the project „Experience and immersive technologies – from creative practice to educational theory” makes available the second planned intellectual output: syllabi of classes introducing immersive technologies and their cultural, economic and political contexts.

Erasmus XR Summer School

The Erasmus XR Summer School took place from 11 to 15 July 2022, on the campus in Msida belonging to the University of Malta as one of the parts of the project Experience and immersion technologies – from creative practice to the theory of education financed under the Erasmus+ program. The training was targeted to students and academic staff from The Institute of Culture of The Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Film School in Lodz and The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. The events include a series of lectures and workshops. The introduced lecture on the first day on issues related to immersion experiences was delivered by Penny Papageorgopoulou, IT specialist, a visual artist and new media researcher. In the second part of the day, Fabrizio Cali presented Immersion Laboratory operating in the structures of MAKS – Faculty of Media Sciences and Knowledge. In the afternoon, the participants moved to The Valletta Design Cluster, which is a community space for cultural and creative practice where Demitri Delinikolas, film director and new media artist, lives in Athens demonstrated The Art of Living Odyssey project. Demitri also conducted Cinematic VR workshops on Tuesday, during which students were divided into groups and their task was to film selected elements of the environment with the 360-degree spherical cameras. On the third day, Dimitris Charitos and Haris Rizopoulos from the Department of Communication and Media Studies gave a lecture about basic assumptions of creating immersion experiences on selected examples from  The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Afternoon workshop was dedicated to creating and implementation of applications based on augmented reality technology. On the fourth day in the TV studio of the University of Malta, Pawe? Fabja?ski, Filip Gabriel Pud?o and Bart?omiej Talaga presented short history of the Lodz Film School and conducted film exercises with virtual scenography. On the last day of the school, the next stages of the project were discussed. The whole Summer School was crowned with the audiovisual performance human+=machines co-organized by Electronic Music Malta (EMM) together with the Faculty of Digital Arts of The University of Malta and the Lodz Film School. The performance took place at Spazju Kreattiv in Valletta, a 16th century fort converted into the National Centre for Creativity.
